Our Resource Partners

The Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children® was established in June 2015 as an operating 501(c)(3) nonprofit to continue Delaware Attorney General Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III’s commitment to protect children and confront abuse.

We believe child abuse can be prevented by:

  • creating effective child abuse prevention education for adults and children;

  • developing the next generation of child welfare professionals;

  • and strengthening child protection laws around the country.

The Foundation’s focus on prevention education helps youth-serving organizations assess and improve their child protection policies, procedures, and programming through our Shield of Protection®; provides programming for adults to recognize and report child abuse; and educates children in good digital citizenship, Internet safety, and bullying prevention.

Shield of Protection® Certification

The Shield of Protection® is a unique program designed by the Beau Biden Foundation’s experts in law, education, and law enforcement to help ensure schools and youth-serving organizations have the best policies, procedures, and programming in place to help protect children from all forms of child abuse and neglect.

The Beau Biden Foundation’s Shield of Protection® is awarded to schools and youth-serving organizations that have achieved the best practices in child protection policies and procedures as assessed by the Beau Biden Foundation.

Effects of Sexual Violence include Depression, Flashbacks, and PTSD

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE, online.rainn.org, rainn.org/es) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

Victim Services: The victim services experts at RAINN take a victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to developing programs and services that support survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. As the country’s leading provider of sexual assault services, we have developed programs to help survivors in all stages of recovery.

Public Education: RAINN’s communications experts raise the visibility of sexual violence and advance the public’s understanding of the crime. We work with the media, entertainment industry, and colleges across the country to provide accurate information about sexual violence prevention, prosecution, and recovery.

Public Policy: RAINN’s policy team works at the federal and state level to improve the criminal justice system, prevent sexual assault, and ensure justice for survivors.

Boy Scouts of America Response

“The Boy Scouts of America believes our organization has a social and moral responsibility to equitably compensate all victims who were abused during their time in Scouting. We also have a duty to carry out our mission for years to come. We believe victims, we support them, and we encourage them to come forward.

We are heartbroken and outraged that there have been times when individuals took advantage of our programs to abuse innocent children and sincerely apologize to anyone who was harmed during their time in Scouting.”

Researchers have found that at least 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual abuse or assault, whether in childhood or as adults. If you’ve had such an experience, or think you might have, you are not alone.

1in6 has partnered with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) out of a shared concern and compassion for survivors of abuse and a steadfast commitment to helping survivors get support from trusted sources.

The Boy Scouts have announced a program for counseling for BSA survivors. You can request information about this program by calling

Virtus

Child sexual abuse is a worldwide public health issue. Child abuse, particularly child sexual abuse, is reprehensible—especially when the wrongdoer is affiliated with the Church. The VIRTUS® programs assist the Church in being a safe haven for children and a messenger for preventing child sexual abuse within the Church and society in general. We seek to achieve this lofty goal through our child sexual abuse prevention program: Protecting God's Children®.

Zero Abuse Project

This 2-day course empowers faith communities to recognize and respond to cases of sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. Included are discussions detailing the impact of child abuse on a victim’s sense of spirituality, as well as concrete suggestions for working with medical and mental health professionals to assist a child in coping with maltreatment.
